Is exxon screwing the american people by selling them oil or would they be screwing the people more by..?

stopping the production of oil and gas?Is exxon screwing the american people by selling them oil or would they be screwing the people more by..?
Exxon is screwing the American people by:

*taking millions and millions of tax dollars during their highest profit period of their existence

*jacking up the price of gas at every whisper and breath and hint of weather, hurricane, Middle East crises, flood, etc. When we all know that the stockpiles of gas we use on a day-to-day basis is SIX MONTHS OLD and not affected one penny by ';today's current disaster.';

*by not taking financial responsibility for their proportion of pollution and contamination of our air and water

*by not paying one red cent for the death and destruction caused by Valdez even though the incident occurred OVER EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO

*by not enthusiastically diving into research and development of vehicles which will get every single mile possible out of every single drop of gasIs exxon screwing the american people by selling them oil or would they be screwing the people more by..?
ignorance rules the day with this question. Exxon does not control the price of a barrel of oil. That is up to 89.00 a barrel because lib morons in congress won't let our oil companies drill for oil where we have huge reserves easily accessible. If you noticed, your gas prices have not risen at the same rate as a barrel of oil... which means that Exxon, Shell and other companies are eating the cost... because the 50% taxes both state and federal will not ever take the hit. Complain to your congressman about this, but leave the oil companies alone.
';by selling them oil'; - NO

(that's their job and we pay them well for it)

but.. by taking our tax dollars when they are making record profits - YES
LOL, blueridge. The price of oil and gas are determined by MARKETS like NYMEX and such.

Do get out more please.
The latter. The country would be over if the oil stopped flowing. Don't tell this to the radical lesftists though, they think you can power a car with Al Gore's hot air.
To Major Dookey: Maybe YOU ';should get out more.'; What kind of imbecile would dare deny that gas prices are affected by hurricanes? Or any other little thing they can come up with, for that matter?

“Typically, the demand for gas spikes during the summer, when lots of people go on vacation. Holidays like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July create logjams of tourist traffic during the summer. This high demand usually translates into higher gasoline prices, although that's not always the case. For instance, while gas prices soared 31 cents in April and early May of 2001, reaching $1.71 per gallon (which now seems inexpensive compared to today's prices), prices actually declined during the 2001 summer.

In 2004, prices continued to rise past the end of the summer travel season for a variety of reasons, including several hurricanes and an increase in the price of crude oil. And in 2005, Hurricane Katrina (along with a sizeable increase in crude oil prices) pushed prices to $3.07 per gallon on September 5, 2005.”

its a lose lose situation for us gas buying folks. they control the prices, we pay them. If they were to stop production entirely, prices would skyrocket and unfortunately i would have to walk to work everyday!!
They could always invest their record profits of some $100 billion per annum into alternative energy sources. Certainly this would be a benefit to the long-term stockholders as well the public...

Instead, they take the money and run.
